FINALY, after 15 months of work since I started this model, in 2022, I have finally fitted the remaining parts to the model Princess Mary.
The electronics have all been fitted, and the final task there was to fit the receiver above waterline with the 40mhz areal wire running around the inner combing of the hull, and all items held with double sided sticky tabs and abouty as neet as I will ever be!
I fitted the port and starboard boat hooks, white to port, blue to starboard, and two fittings to the cabin top which i had mislayed months ago, the search light and the loud hailer.
A few little touch ups where she had been scraped and she is now ready, apart from dust ready for putting on show and in the water at Blackpool in 2 weekends 14/15th October .

He was a wise old fox, who taught me in our personal chats about life and things in general that there was a time to speak out, and a time to keep shtumm,........... It helped me com,e to terms with those i was less torrerant with. he always gave good advice in his dry humerous way. |

This morning I bench tested the wiring and my test bed Buhler motors set up for this sort of reason and work......., linked to the 3 12v 4ah sla batteries that I will be using, and which also act as ballast for the model.
And my final triumph of the session................I have got the motors and rudder working precisely as wanted, and needed, FIRST TIME..................amazing for me and my skills with electronics!
And so I transfered all of the electronics into the boat, except the 3 batteries and tested the set up in situ...........BULLSEY!!! again it worked perfectly on one of my 7.2v 5ah nimhs.
And so the 3 SLA batteries have gone on to a slow charge using my pro peak regulated battery charger, and these will be forrled by my 3 x 7.23v 5ah nihms as a back up for Blackpool show.
I am now a happy chappy.

cheers stephen. must admit I could have probably got back earlier, but I get so very frustrated with electrical matters, as they seldom go right for me that it really p's me off and why I have been putting it off. Edited By neil howard-pritchard on 26/09/2023 00:49:12 |

It has taken me 63 days to finally get the strength and enthusiasm back after my operation in late July to get round to naming my lifeboat PRINCESS MARY.

some " kind person" has already offered me £600 as that, he said, was all it was worth to him..............he didn't like my reply, lol. |
20/09/2023 12:05:56 |
yes, just measured it and the bed is 25 1/4 inches, and the serial number is an early one within the first 125 to be manufactured.so presumably around 1964/5 when they were first manufactured.
had an offer this morning but politely [not usually in my nature |

Thanks for the info Len, the pics taken yesterday were after i had dug it out from all the dust and saw dust collected on it. i think its a fair price with the attachments, but the way i feel at the moment, health wise, i just cannot be bothered advertising seperately, nor tbh expending energy which i haven't got at the moment cleaning it all up.............it takes me all my time to get upstairs without wheezing and panting for the next 20 minutes, just to have a pee, lol.

Cracking lathe Neil, the best you will buy and a very good price. I would advertise it on one of the Model Engineering forums or even in ME magazine, where there may well be a much larger audience for it. thanksd for the info Richard......will do so. cheers.

i bought this laith in 1994 when i first started designing lifeboat kits and semi kits from an old steam engine modeller. it has had little use from me over the years to produce small brass fittings [to cast in resin] and in the past year whilst designing the big Barnett that i put up on here as a build, i used it for a maximom of 3 hours. it works perfectly, and although shows a little virdigre it is just surface build up and easily removed by 400 grade wet/dry cloth. it comes with 3 and 4 jaw chucks, 2 face plates, and other tools as photographed. checking on prices on the internet, this top of range and last of the myfords [i believe] they range from £999 - £1400 without the metal cabinet. If like me you wouild prefer to make your fittings the old fashioned way rather than 3D printing, this has always done me proud. I am asking £750 ovno for it, but due to my health at the moment, it must be collected from my home near Blackpool, lancashire. |

has helped greatly Len, and much helpfull information to take in. i used to soft solder small parts but could never get decent results, but your info is very helpful. cheers. |
29/08/2023 12:14:48 |
Len, for anyone not used to soldering such large areas, could you please explain how you have soldered all of these peaces together withour others close to the heat from falling apart. What soldering iron or heat sourse do you use?. what temperatures do you solder at ? what solder you use?, and what flux do you use? and where do you find a supply of virgin tin plate? All of these questions when answered would be of great help to others wishing to follow a similar build project. thank you. |

We welcome well written contributions from Website members on almost any aspect of Model Boating with a particular emphasis on practical hints, tips, experience and builds.
In order to maintain a consistent standard and format, all suggestions should first be sent to me by Personal Message for approval in principle. Only a very limited amount of time is available for editing contributions into a suitable format for placing on the website so it is important that the material is well presented, lucid and free from obvious spelling errors. I think it goes without saying that contributions should be illustrated by appropriate photos. I shall be happy to give advice on this.
The Member Contribution area offers space for short informative mini articles which would not normally find a place in Model Boats magazine. It is an opportunity for Website Members to freely share their expertise and experience but I am afraid that virtue is its own reward as there is no budget to offer more material recompense!
I look forward to receiving your suggestions.
