Has anyone got ?

I have recently got the bug to get back into old style models. Acquired a Sea Queen to restore, and also a Lesro Stiletto (in mistake for the larger Rapier). Now looking for a Rapier and a Wave Rider and a Lesro Sportsman to complete my fleet.

Can anyone steer me in the direction of any of these, either unbuilt kits or wrecks in need of TLC ?

I was going to direct you towards Mayhem and Zooma/Bob and co. but I think I've already done that! That will probably be the best bet unless someone on here can help?

I see Bob is looking for a Stilleto in the Wants on Mahem.

Thanks for the thought, appreciated. I'm simply throwing out as many "hooks" as I can in the hope of catching something.

I was into model boat way back in the 60s/70s, then wandered off into life's wilderness. It's only very recently that I have found myself back with time and interest to come back for more. My likes have changed too, then it was all fast, noisy, pointy things, not classic models.

I now hope to build a small fleet, I have a Sea Queen, and the Stiletto (bought as a mistaken Rapier) ! My wish list includes a Rapier, maybe a Sportsman, also a Wave Rider and maybe a Sea Commander. All of a similar style. The way that electric power has developed gives them all potential for exciting handling, compared with the plodders they were.

My health is not as good as once was, so I am feeling some urgency to get going toward this goal I seem to have set myself, as the clock is not friend these days.

ps, I had a result this afternoon. Found a few old Model Boat mags in the air ambulance charity shop. Now I can chill and do a bit of catching up.

I have a Rapier(SPOOKY), Nor-star Wave Rider and restoring a Wave Princess at present.

My wish list is the Stiletto/Arrow and the Sportsman .

Like you had the noisy things, but into the classic boats.

Present boats:- 2 x Hellen fishing boats, 1 x Eileen, 1x Juilet 4, 2 x Precedent Perkasa's, 1 x Precedent Huntsman, 1 x 30" wooden Huntsman, 1 x Sea Hornet , 36" Thames Police boat, 1 x Smit Nederland tug, 1 x Queen, 1 x Diva, 1 x Wave Rider, 1 x Sea Scout, 1 x 46" Crash Tender, 1 x 1920's Gentleman's runabout, 1x Cracking Mad, 1 x Old Speed boat, 1x Wavemaster, 1x Javelin and a Corona Cabin Cruiser which are all working.

It seems I have already bumped into a few modellers who have similar boats on their wish list's. I cannot exactly explain what makes these particular models more desirable than others, but it is a bug that bites deep once it gets to you !

Plenty of fans of the Les Rowell designs here, have you looked at the SLEC - Model boat kits - Sportsman is one of them I think, Jontika still make kits for the Sea Commander .

Seeing the mention by Ray of SLEC kits. I am, at present, building their 1:8 scale Fairey Huntress which, I think will look absolutely superb when finished. Another reason I have jumped in here is that they are doing a kit of the Fairey Huntsman 31 which comes out at 47" loa. I have seen it at the factory in its completed but unpainted state and it looks absolutely superb. I have no connection with SLEC apart from liking their kits and I thought they might appeal to you.

Like yourself, I feel that agewise I am running out of time but, at least, it keeps me out of mischief!(chance would be a fine thing).

Good to hear from you. I have always liked the Fairey boats since the iconic Team Ford boats stopped over at Whitby in 1969. Maybe one day, but first I have a Sea Queen to get sorted, then maybe the little Stiletto. I don't think I could justify a brand new kit just yet. It's that odd conundrum, the wife likes the idea of me restoring a few beat up old boats, but brand new get's a frown for the moment !

Quick question, water cooling scoops versus the flush underneath intake scoops. Would the flush mounted ones be sufficient ?

Hi Steve,

Afraid I can't advise on water scoops/cooling. I only tried it on one boat some time ago but decided it was hardly worth the hassle. You will find that brushless motors tend to get a little warm and I have been in the habit of using model car ESCs from Hobbyking as the appropriate ones are fitted with a cooling fan. Bear in mind that, in general, brushless motors etc., are used in model aircraft where, sometimes, they are completely cowled, so will get very little cooling air and they do not have any problems.

I envy you if you live in or near Whitby - I am an exiled North Yorkshireman living in West Norfolk. I would jump at the chance to move back to 'God's Country' now but, unfortunately, too old to start moving house again.

I know what you mean, no scoop, less drag and less hassle.

I'm ex Whitby, left for southern parts when I was 25, moved back north 10 years ago. Scarborough now and no plans to go elsewhere. Only downside seems to be lack of a model club.
